Transfer a folder to Android
How to transfer a folder from Windows to Android.
A photo directory, course folder, or test build folder can contain many files. Select the folder on Windows and let the app send its regular files instead of packaging a cloud upload.
THE FRICTION
Folder transfer works best when its boundaries are clear.
A directory may contain hidden files, symbolic links, empty folders, or content you do not intend to share.
- 01Selecting files one by one misses content
- 02Packaging adds an extra compress and extract step
- 03Empty folders and symbolic links may not be useful to move
- 04Receiver capacity may be discovered too late
The route
Find the friction first, then choose the shorter route.
- 1
Verify device and network
- 2
Check the system conditions
- 3
Discover the target again
- 4
Follow transfer state
Why this feels simpler
Choose a directory while keeping file results visible.
Select the whole folder on Windows
Choose or drag a folder on Windows.
Send regular files individually
The app sends regular files inside it and skips empty folders and symbolic links.
Verify names and progress
The receiver exposes filenames, sizes, and task state.
How to start
Send folder contents from Windows to Android.
Prepare the directory and check phone space before sending, then organize the received files.
- 01
Prepare the folder
Remove temporary files and content you should not share.
- 02
Choose or drag it on Windows
Choose the folder and review the target device.
- 03
Select the online Android device
The app recursively handles regular files inside it.
- 04
Verify file results
After completion, check key files, sizes, and phone storage.
Privacy and security boundary
Folder contents stay on the LAN instead of becoming a cloud directory.
The sender hands files directly to Android. Account services do not receive folder content; later sync from the receiver follows other software settings.
- ✓Empty folders and symbolic links are skipped
- ✓Review the directory before sharing
- ✓Leave space for a large folder
FAQ
Folder transfer questions
Can I select a whole folder at once?
Yes. Windows supports choosing or dragging a folder, then the app sends its regular files.
Are empty folders preserved?
No. Empty folders and symbolic links are skipped; create any needed empty directory on the receiver yourself.
Do I need to make a ZIP first?
No. You can select the folder directly. Compress it only when that fits your own organization needs.
Can I see progress for many files?
The app exposes actual file task state. Time and throughput depend on file count, network, and storage.
Do both devices need to use the same Wi-Fi?
They need to share one reachable local network. The PC can use Ethernet while the phone uses Wi-Fi if the networks still allow device-to-device access.
Does LAN file transfer require internet access?
First activation, account management, and updates use the internet. Actual text and file transfer happens on the reachable LAN and does not require a constant internet connection.
Why are devices missing even on the same Wi-Fi?
Guest mode, AP or client isolation, Windows Firewall, VPNs, virtual adapters, and Android background limits can block device discovery.
Can I transfer a file that is tens of gigabytes?
Large files are supported, but completion depends on receiver capacity, file system, Wi-Fi stability, and storage performance.
Will a received file be uploaded to cloud storage?
CipherTransLocal does not upload content to its licensing server. If the receiving folder is covered by OneDrive, Gallery, or another sync tool, its settings decide whether it uploads.
Does the free trial require a payment method?
No. The current three-day trial needs no payment method and no lifetime activation key.
Move the directory without packaging a cloud upload.
Prepare one test folder and transfer it between your Windows PC and Android phone.
